What is Our South Tyneside Data Observatory?

Our South Tyneside Data Observatory is a free to use website with up to date information about our borough. It brings together data, research and evidence about South Tyneside in one place.

You can learn about how South Tyneside compares to the North East and England by viewing our themed reports. Some data is available at a neighbourhood (LSOA), ward, built up area and Community Area Forum level. See our Geography page for further information.

You can also access data in the form of tables and charts using the Data Explorer.

When using data from this site, you must follow the rules of the Open Government Licence. For maps, please also use the following copyright statements to acknowledge the source of the boundary information:

Who can use our South Tyneside Data Observatory?

Our South Tyneside Data Observatory is available to all. We hope the site will be useful to residents, the public sector, voluntary and community organisations, businesses and anyone else interested in learning more about South Tyneside.

The information on this site can be used to help shape plans and services, prepare funding applications and bids, support research and evaluation activities, enable residents and businesses to access information about their local area and much more.


Where is the data from?

Our South Tyneside Data Observatory brings together thousands of indicators from many different sources. For example, the Office for National Statistics (ONS), Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

To see the publisher of a specific piece of data, along with other relevant information, select the circled ‘i’ icon next to it.
