In December 2025 the following indicators were updated as part of the Fingertips alcohol profile:
Alcohol-specific mortality
This indicator release shows the deaths from alcohol-specific conditions for all ages as a rate per 100,000 population for 2024.
- In South Tyneside this was a rate of 28.5 per 100,000.
- This was significantly higher than the national rate of 13.8.
- This was not significantly different to the regional rate of 21.1 per 100,000The recent trend for this indicator shows no significant change
Alcohol-related mortality
This indicator release shows the deaths from alcohol-specific conditions for all ages as a rate per 100,000 population for 2024.
- In South Tyneside this was a rate of 64.2 per 100,000.
- This was significantly higher than the national rate of 38.9 per 100,000.
- This was also significantly higher than the regional rate of 50.8 per 100,000.
- The recent trend for this indicator shows no significant change.
Under 75 mortality rate from alcoholic liver disease
This indicator release shows the rate of mortality from alcoholic liver disease per 100,000 population in those aged 75 and under for the three-year period 2022-24.
- In South Tyneside this was a rate of 18.5 per 100,000.
- This was significantly higher than the national rate of 11.4 per 100,000.
- This was not significantly different from regional rate of 16.9 per 100,000.

Mortality from chronic liver disease
This indicator release shows the rate of deaths from chronic liver disease of all ages per 100,000 population for 2024.

Potential working years of life lost (PWYLL) due to alcohol-related conditions
This indicator release shows the potential years of life lost due to alcohol related conditions for all ages, expressed as a rate per 100,000 population for the year 2023. This indicator is available to view for both Males and Females.
- For males in South Tyneside this was a rate of 2210 per 100,000.
- This was significantly higher than the national rate of 1246 per 100,000.
- This was not significantly different from the regional rate of 1898 per 100,000.
- For females in South Tyneside this was a rate of 1052 per 100,000.
- This was significantly higher than the national rate of 533 per 100,000.
- This was not significantly different from the regional rate of 849 per 100,000.
- Both indicator shows no significant change in trend.
Cardiovascular Disease Profile
In December 2025 the following indicators were updated as part of the Fingertips cardiovascular disease profile:
Hospital admissions due to coronary heart disease
This indicator release shows the rate of hospital admissions from coronary heart disease per 100,000 population for 2024/25.
- In South Tyneside this was a rate of 434.8 per 100,000.
- This was significantly higher than the national rate of 386.6 per 100,000.

Hospital admissions due to heart failure
This indicator release shows the rate of hospital admissions from heart failure per 100,000 population for 2024/25.
- In South Tyneside this was a rate of 192.2 per 100,000.

Suicide Prevention Profile

Depression: QOF prevalence
This indicator release shows the percentage of patients aged 18 and over with depression, as recorded on practice disease registers for 2024/25.
For Local authorities: The recorded depression prevalence is the estimated number of people with depression recorded on the practice register as a proportion of the practice list size, aged 18 years or over, allocated to a local authority boundary using the postcode of the practice.
- In South Tyneside this was 17.4%.
- This is significantly higher than the national prevalence of 14.3%.
- This is also significantly higher than the regional prevalence of 16.1%.

Loneliness: Percentage of adults who feel lonely often or always
This indicator release shows the percentage of adults (aged 16 and over) that responded to the question “How often do you feel lonely?” with “Always or often” in the active lives survey for 2022/23 – 2023/24.
